What is a Rapid PCR Test?
The Thermo Fisher/Mesa Biotech Accula SARS-CoV-2 test platform is a Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction(RT-PCR) test which is a type of a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test(NAAT), considered the gold standard in COVID testing. It is performed using only a nasal swab which is minimally invasive yet proven to be extremely accurate and reliable.
PCR tests are highly sensitive which means that they are able to detect very small amounts of virus. These are the tests most commonly used in hospitals to detect SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID.
